Throwback Challenge 2020: Kanto was a PokemonGO event that ran between May 1st 2020 and May 8th 2020. Some users have reported an accidental release of this Timed Research on April 27th 2020.

In this article we will explore all bonuses that were available during the forementioned time peroid and list all the tasks you needed to complete to earn a Mewtwo encounter!

 

Bonuses

• Pokemon originally discovered in the Kanto region, such as Venonat and Chansey, will be appearing more frequently in the wild.
• Pokemon originally discovered in the Kanto region will also be available to battle in raids.
• The following Pokémon will be hatching from 7 km Eggs: Venonat, Machop, Onix, Lickitung, Tangela, Scyther, Pinsir, Lapras, and Eevee.
• In honor of Charizard being chosen in the Pokémon of the Year vote as the number-one Pokemon originally discovered in the Kanto region, Pikachu wearing Charizard hats will be appearing in the wild!
• If you’re lucky, you might find a Shiny Venonat!
• Event-exclusive Field Research tasks will reward encounters with Pokemon originally discovered in the Kanto region.
• 2× Catch XP, 2× Raid XP, and 2× Hatch XP bonuses will be active.

Stage 1 of 9

• Catch 3 Grass, Water or Fire-type Pokémon (10x PokéBall)
• Take a snapshot of a Bug-type Pokémon (5x Pinap Berry)
• Catch a Rock-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Onix Encounter, 1x Rare Candy, 2x Golden Razz Berry.

 

Stage 2 of 9

• Battle in a raid (Clefairy Encounter)
• Transfer 3 Pokémon (10x Super Potion)
• Catch a Water-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Starmie Encounter, 1x Rare Candy, 2x Silver Pinap Berry.

 

Stage 3 of 9

• Evolve 3 Pokémon (10x Great Ball)
• Hatch an Egg (Snorlax Encounter)
• Catch an Electric-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

• Give your buddy a treat (Gastly Encounter)
• Send a gift to a friend (Dratini Encounter)

• Earn a candy walking with your buddy (5x Ultra Ball)
