Throwback Challenge 2020: Johto was a PokemonGO event which ran between May 8th 2020 at 1:00pm and May 15th 2020 1:00pm local time.

In this article we will explore all bonuses that were available during the forementioned time peroid and list all the tasks you needed to complete to earn a Ho-Oh encounter!

Bonuses

• Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region, such as Dunsparce and Skarmory, will be appearing more frequently in the wild.
• Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region will also be available to battle in raids.
• The following Pokémon will be hatching from 7 km Eggs: Chinchou, Yanma, Girafarig, Pineco, Dunsparce, Gligar, Shuckle, Skarmory, and Phanpy.
• In honor of Umbreon being chosen in the Pokémon of the Year vote as the number-one Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region, Pikachu wearing Umbreon hats will be appearing in the wild!
• If you’re lucky, you might find a Shiny Dunsparce!
• Event-exclusive Field Research tasks will reward encounters with Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region.
• 2× Catch Stardust and 2× Raid Stardust bonuses will be active.

Timed Research Tasks

Stage 1 of 9

• Catch 3 Grass, Water or Fire-type Pokémon (10x PokéBall)
• Send a Gift to a Friend (Dunsparce Encounter)
• Catch a Flying-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Xatu Encounter, 1x Silver Pinap Berry, 2x Golden Razz Berry.

 

Stage 2 of 9

• Play with your buddy (Spinarak Encounter)
• Give your buddy 3 treats (5x Razz Berry)
• Catch a Bug-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Pineco Encounter, 2x Silver Pinap Berry, 1x Golden Razz Berry.

 

Stage 3 of 9

• Make 3 Great Throws (1x Charged TM)
• Hatch an Egg (Snubull Encounter)
• Catch a Normal-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Miltank Encounter, 1x Silver Pinap Berry, 2x Golden Razz Berry.

 

Stage 4 of 9

• Catch 5 different species of Pokémon (10x Great Ball)
• Evolve a Pokémon (Sudowoodo Encounter)
• Catch a Ghost-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Misdreavus Encounter, 2x Silver Pinap Berry, 1x Golden Razz Berry.

 

Stage 5 of 9

• Take 3 Snapshots with your Buddy (Shuckle Encounter)
• Make 4 Nice Curveball Throws (Mantine Encounter)
• Catch a Fighting-type Pokemon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Hitmontop Encounter, 1x Silver Pinap Berry, 2x Golden Razz Berry.

 

Stage 6 of 9

• Catch an Electric-type Pokemon (1x Incense)
• Power up Pokemon 3 times (Mareep Encounter)
• Catch a Steel-type Pokemon (500 Stardust)
