Throwback Challenge 2020: Hoenn was a PokemonGO event which ran between May 15th 2020 at 1:00pm and May 22nd 2020 1:00pm local time.

In this article we will explore all bonuses that were available during the forementioned time peroid and list all the tasks you needed to complete to earn a Groudon encounter!

Bonuses

• Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region - such as Skitty, Zangoose, and Seviper - will be appearing more frequently in the wild.
• Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region will also be available to battle in raids.
• The following Pokémon will be hatching from 7 km Eggs: Lotad, Slakoth, Nincada, Skitty, Sableye, Mawile, Trapinch, Feebas, and Clamperl.
• In honor of Rayquaza being chosen in the Pokémon of the Year vote as the number-one Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region, Pikachu wearing Rayquaza hats will be appearing in the wild!
• If you’re lucky, you might find a Shiny Skitty!
• Event-exclusive Field Research tasks will reward encounters with Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region.
• The distance needed to hatch an Egg once it’s been placed in an Incubator and the distance needed to earn Buddy Candy will be halved.

Stage 1 of 9

• Catch 3 Grass, Water or Fire-type Pokémon (10x PokéBall)
• Claim Reward! (5x Rare Candy)
• Catch a Rock-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Nosepass Encounter, 1x Pinap Berry, 2x Razz Berry.

 

Stage 2 of 9

• Power Up a Pokemon (Pinap Berry)
• Make 3 Nice Throws (Lairon Encounter)
• Catch a Fighting-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Hariyama Encounter, 2x Pinap Berry, 1x Razz Berry.

 

Stage 3 of 9

• Send a Gift to a Friend (1x Incense)
• Make 3 Curveball Throws (Wailmer Encounter)
• Catch a Electric-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Manectric Encounter, 1x Pinap Berry, 2x Razz Berry.

 

Stage 4 of 9

• Earn a Candy walking your Buddy (Trapinch Encounter)
• Catch 3 Pokemon with Weather Boost (Bagon Encounter)
• Catch a Fire-type Pokémon (500 Stardust)

Completion Rewards: Camerupt Encounter, 2x Pinap Berry, 1x Razz Berry.

• Make 3 Great Throws (Shedinja Encounter)
• Power Up a Pokemon 3 times (10x Great Ball)
• Catch a Normal-type Pokemon (500 Stardust)

• Battle another Trainer (Absol Encounter)
