As a part of the Halloween 2020 celebration, a Timed Researched named Mega Gengar was added to PokemonGO, as you might have guessed, this Timed Research revolves around Gengar and its Mega Evolution. The Mega Gengar event is not available to everyone though, it's only availble to trainers who completed the Mega Buddy Event back in September 2020. The quest itself is relatively short and is not too hard, most trainers should be able to complete it in a single day if they choose to. The event is available for 12 straight days from October 23rd to November 3rd.

- Transfer 13 Pokemon (10x Pokeball)
- Catch 13 Ghost-type Pokémon (Gastly Encounter)
- Catch 13 Dark-type Pokémon (Houndour Encounter)
Completion Rewards: 50x Mega Gengar Energy, 5x Gastly candy, 500 Stardust.
Stage 2 of 3
- Make 9 Nice Throws in a row (Gastly Encounter)
- Evolve 4 Pokemon (Haunter Encounter)
- Catch 94 Pokemon (Event Gengar Encounter)
Completion Rewards: 50x Mega Gengar Energy, 5x Gastly candy, 1000 Stardust.
