The Mythical Pokemon Meltan was first teased in September 2018 when it started appearing all over the world and when caught it transformed in to a Ditto. Today, the easiest way for getting Meltan is to pair your PokemonGO account with your Pokemon Let's Go account on Nintendo Switch then trasfer over any Pokemon from your PokemonGO account over to your Nintendo. Once you do that you'll be rewarded with a Mystery Box that when opened attracts Meltans to your current location for 30 mins. Note that you can only do it once every 7 days.

For all trainers who don't have a Nintendo Switch or don't wish to do the process described above Niantic give an alternative way to catch Meltan by completing a Special Research Quest - Let's Go, Meltan. It consists of 9 Stages with 3 tasks each.

Some of the tasks require long preparation, and to help our readers equip themselves with the right items in advanced we are going to list all of them. Note that each tasks gives you an XP reward and completing each stage grants 3 additional rewards.

 

Stage 1 of 9

• Spin 5 Pokestops or Gyms (500 XP)
• Catch 10 Pokemon (500 XP)
• Transfer 5 Pokemon (500 XP)

Completion Rewards: 1,000 Stardust, 10 Pokeballs, 1 Incubator.

 

Stage 2 of 9

• Earn 2 Candies walking with your Buddy (1,000 XP)
• Make 10 Great Throws (1,000 XP)
• Hatch 3 Eggs (1,000 XP)

Completion Rewards: 2,000 Stardust, 2 Lucky Eggs, 1 Fast TM.

 

Stage 3 of 9

• Catch a Ditto (1,500 XP)
• Win 2 Gym Battles (1,500 XP)
• Battle in 2 Raids (1,500 XP)

Completion Rewards: 10 Great Balls, 3 Incense, 3 Max Revive.

 

Stage 4 of 9

• Catch 5 Steel-Type Pokemon (2,000 XP)
• Catch 5 Electric-Type Pokemon (2,000 XP)
• Earn 5 Candies walking with your Buddy (2,000 XP)

Completion Rewards: 4,000 Stardust, 5 Pinap Berries, 5 Rare Candies.

 

Stage 5 of 9

• Evolve a Grimer (2,500 XP)
• Catch 5 Slugma or Gulpin (2,500 XP)
• Make 20 Great Throws (2,500 XP)

Completion Rewards: 5,000 Stardust, 20 Great Balls, 5 Lure Modules.

 

Stage 6 of 9

• Evolve a Magnemite (3,000 XP)
• Catch 5 Exeggcute (3,000 XP)
• Battle in 10 Raids (3,000 XP)

Completion Rewards: 1 Silver Pinap Berry, 1 Metal Coat, 10 Ultra Balls.

 

Stage 7 of 9

• Evolve 1 Drowzee (3,500 XP)
• Catch 1 Cubone (3,500 XP)
• Evolve 1 Scyther (3,500 XP)

Completion Rewards: 10 Ultra Balls, 1 Charged TM, 3 Premium Raid Passes.

 

Stage 8 of 9

• Catch 2 Omanyte or Kabuto (4,000 XP)
• Catch 2 Lileep or Anorith (4,000 XP)
• Catch an Aerodactyl (4,000 XP)

Completion Rewards: 8,000 Stardust, 1 Star Piece, Encounter with Meltan.
